WILD DHARMA

OUR INTEGRATED ECO SOCIAL WORK

ADDRESSING POVERTY, HEALTH, EDUCATION AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The primary challenge facing remote communities in Palawan is poverty, and its cascading effects on health, education, and cultural continuity. Without addressing poverty at its root, efforts to improve health and education will continue to fall short.

The dominant economic system offers these communities little opportunity many are left to survive

hand-to-mouth, at times facing hunger and deep insecurity.

At best, they are granted a fragile foothold on the lowest rung of an economy that neither recognises nor values their knowledge, skills, or ways of life. Too often, participation requires abandoning cultural identity and local wisdom in exchange for marginal and unstable livelihoods.

INTEGRATED HEALTH

HEALTH

Remote communities in Palawan have limited access to even the most basic healthcare services.

Addressing this gap is central to our work.

.

Many of the health challenges faced by these communities are closely linked to poverty and inadequate nutrition.

SANITATION &
FOOD & WATER SECURITY

Access to clean water and adequate sanitation is a critical determinant of health in poor and remote communities. Ensuring water security, hygiene education, and sustainable sanitation solutions not only protects physical health, but also strengthens resilience, dignity, and the capacity of communities to thrive in the long term.

HEALTH CLINIC

The central pillar of our work to support community health is our health clinic, a small but vital facility providing primary care for immediate needs such as injuries and acute illness, while also serving as a hub for ongoing health education and the collection of long-term health data. Equally important is the protection of cultural continuity, which is fundamental to the inner wellbeing, resilience, and identity of these communities.

HEALTH EDUCATION

Health education focusses on both traditional practices and the basics of nutrition and sanitation. we will also be actively supporting young women with culturally sensitive health education, reproductive care, and community-based resources, not only for their wellbeing, but for the resilience and future of their communities.

There will also be opportunities for those with interest to contribute to the health clinic activities which may inspire further studies in the health care industry.

EDUCATION

EDUCATION

Education in the remote communities is a significant challenges shaped by poverty, geographic isolation, and under funded infrastructure.

Many children have restricted access to schools, learning materials, and trained teachers, making consistent education difficult to sustain. Yet education is essential not only for improving future livelihoods and health outcomes, but also for strengthening confidence, cultural continuity, and community resilience. When education is locally accessible, culturally grounded, and supported over time, it becomes a powerful pathway for communities to expand opportunity while remaining rooted in their identity and relationship with the land.

POVERTY

Poverty shapes every aspect of life in remote Palawan communities, limiting access to food, health, and education, and forcing people to survive hand-to-mouth. Beyond material hardship, it threatens cultural continuity, as traditional knowledge and ways of life are simply of no value to the current economic system, so the enter the economic system often means abandoning generations of essential wisdom and knowledge, just to survive.

MARINE CARE

Palawan falls within the coral triangle. Many reefs in our region have been damaged by poor fishing practices. coral regeneration has proven to an effective way to replenish fish stocks.

Scientists estimate that coral reefs are home to more than 25% of marine species. Corals are also at the core of the formation of other ecosystems.
